Our story
Namla is on a mission. We are bringing applied anthropology to people and organisations committed to creating real world impact, together. We believe that anthropological research methods can be a powerful tool for commercial, non-profit, and governmental organisations to better serve their purpose, their clients and citizens.
In Arabic, the word “namla” means “ant”. No matter how individually small, ants become a gigantic force when organised and brought together. Our dream is to foster a global colony of ants who go out into the world applying anthropology to everyday challenges. Do you want to join our movement?
How we got here
At the start, we were two anthropologists working outside of academia, Rosalie and Corina, motivated by a burning question: how can we as anthropologists use our knowledge to create positive change in fast-paced environments?
We were working in places where no one knew what anthropologists are or what they do. We were looking for peers, people like us who had the will to look for creative solutions in complex situations.
It was time to start a movement. In 2019, we created the Interbuilding Applied Anthropology Meetup, a series of interactive sessions and discussions in a partnership with the University of Amsterdam (UvA), in the Netherlands. From that experience, which lasted until 2023, Namla was born (in 2020), and the extent of our network of curious and eager collaborators has only grown since.
